Terms of Use
Effective September 27, 2026 · Governs stackedlegal.com, every subdomain, and every guide, tool, download, template and course we publish.
The short version. Our guides and tools are legal education, not legal advice. Reading them does not make us your lawyer. Everything is sold as-is, for your own personal use, one copy per buyer, with no refunds. You agree to these terms by using the site or buying anything from us. If you do not agree, do not use the site.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
STACKED LEGAL, LLC ("STACKED LEGAL," "we," "us") is a legal education publisher organized under the laws of Texas. We publish plain-language legal and career guides, template packs, courses, checklists and reference tools (together, the "Content") through stackedlegal.com and its subdomains (the "Site") and through third-party retailers.
These Terms of Use (the "Terms") are a binding agreement between you and STACKED LEGAL. They apply to everyone who visits the Site, registers a book, downloads anything, uses a free tool, or buys a product from us, whether you read the Terms or not. Our Privacy Policy and our Sales, Shipping & License Policy are part of these Terms.
We may change the Terms at any time by posting a new version with a new effective date. The version posted when you use the Site or place an order is the one that applies to that use or order.
2. Legal education, not legal advice. No attorney-client relationship.
STACKED LEGAL is a publisher. It is not a law firm, is not engaged in the practice of law, and is not a lawyer referral service. Nothing on the Site or in any Content is legal advice, and nothing here is a substitute for advice from a licensed attorney who knows the facts of your situation.
Specifically, you agree and understand that:
- Buying, reading, downloading or using any Content, registering a book, emailing us, or using any tool does not create an attorney-client relationship, a fiduciary relationship, or any duty of care between you and STACKED LEGAL or anyone who contributed to the Content.
- Nothing you send us is privileged or confidential in the way a communication with your own lawyer would be.
- The Content is general information about the law of a particular state or of the United States as of the law-current date printed in that item. It is not tailored to you. Laws, court rules, forms, fees and deadlines change, and courts apply them differently to different facts.
- You are responsible for confirming the current law, the correct court, the correct form and every deadline before you act, and for deciding whether to hire an attorney. Missing a deadline can end a case. Do not rely on any Content for a deadline without checking the official source.
- Career guides are career information, not legal, financial or professional advice. STACKED LEGAL does not issue, guarantee or process any license, certification, registration or credential. Requirements are set by the agency, board or body named in the guide and can change without notice.
3. How our content is made
Our Content is produced by an attorney-led editorial process working with research and drafting systems built on artificial intelligence. We do not represent that any item is free of error, complete, or current after its law-current date, and Section 11 applies in full to all Content regardless of how it was produced.
4. Your license: one person, personal use only
When you buy or download Content from us, you are not buying the Content. You are buying a license. Subject to these Terms, STACKED LEGAL grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to use one copy of that Content for your own personal, non-commercial purposes.
- One buyer, one user. A license covers the individual who bought the item. It does not cover a household, an office, a firm, a school, a club, a group or an organization.
- Printed books. You may read, mark up and keep your printed copy, and you may sell or give away that one physical copy as any book owner may. You may not scan, photocopy, photograph or otherwise reproduce it, in whole or in part, beyond a short quotation for personal reference.
- eBooks and digital downloads. You may store and view the file on devices you own for your own use. You may not copy, share, forward, upload, post, print for others, or store it where anyone else can reach it.
- Template packs and forms. You may complete and use the forms for your own legal matter. You may not use them for anyone else's matter, whether paid or unpaid, and you may not use them to prepare documents for others as a business or service. You may not copy, share, forward, upload, post, print for others, or store it where anyone else can reach it.
- Bonus toolkits, checklists and free tools. Same rules: your own use, one copy, no redistribution.
All rights not expressly granted are reserved. STACKED LEGAL may end your license immediately if you break these Terms, and you must then delete every digital copy you hold.
5. What you may not do
You may not, and may not help or allow anyone else to:
- Use any Content for a commercial purpose. This includes using it to advise, prepare documents for, or provide services to clients, customers, tenants, employees, members or the public, whether or not you charge for it; incorporating it into a product, course, publication, website, app or dataset; or using it to train, fine-tune, prompt or evaluate any artificial-intelligence or machine-learning system.
- Copy, reproduce, distribute, publish, display, perform, sell, rent, lend, sublicense, share, post, transmit, or create derivative works from any Content, in any medium, except as Section 4 expressly allows.
- Remove, hide or alter any copyright, trademark, edition, law-current date or disclaimer notice.
- Reverse engineer, scrape, crawl, harvest, extract, index or bulk-download any part of the Site or the Content, including by automated means.
- Circumvent any registration, license, download limit, watermark or access control.
- Use the STACKED LEGAL® name, logo or trade dress, or suggest that STACKED LEGAL endorses you, your business or your work.
- Use the Site or Content to practice law without a license, to give legal advice to others, or in any way that violates any law or court rule.
- Upload malicious code, interfere with the Site, or attempt to access accounts, systems or data you are not authorized to access.
We may investigate suspected violations, suspend or terminate your access, revoke your license, and pursue every remedy available to us, including injunctive relief and recovery of our attorneys' fees and costs where the law allows.
6. Accounts, book registration and communications
Some features require you to register a book or provide an email address. You agree to give accurate information and to keep it current. You are responsible for anything done through your account or with your registration details.
By registering a book or subscribing, you consent to receive emails from us about your download, new editions, and related products and updates. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in any email. Transactional emails (order confirmations, download links, edition notices for a registered book) may continue while you hold a license.
7. Free tools, reference desks and downloads
We may offer free tools, such as rule-lookup desks, deadline calculators, checklists and one-page guides. They are provided as a convenience, on the same as-is basis as everything else, and Sections 2, 4, 5, 11 and 12 apply to them in full. A calculator or lookup result is not a legal determination. Court rules, local rules, standing orders and holidays vary, and you must confirm any date or rule with the court or an attorney before relying on it. We may change, limit or withdraw any free tool at any time without notice.
8. Purchases, pricing and retailers
Prices are stated in U.S. dollars and may change without notice; the price shown at checkout applies to that order. Sales tax is added where required. Paperbacks ordered on the Site are printed to order and shipped by our print partner. eBooks are sold through third-party retailers such as Google Play Books and Amazon, and your purchase from a retailer is governed by that retailer's terms as well as by these Terms. Our Sales, Shipping & License Policy (below) is part of these Terms and sets out our no-refund policy and replacement terms. We may refuse or cancel any order, including for suspected fraud, pricing errors or licensing abuse, and will refund any amount charged for an order we cancel.
9. Third-party sites and services
The Site links to retailers, our print partner, official government and court sources, and other third parties. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability, accuracy, terms or privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement. Official statutes, rules and forms are published by governments and courts; where our Content and an official source differ, the official source controls.
10. Intellectual property and takedown notices
The Site and all Content, including text, organization, selection and arrangement, plain-language summaries, checklists, templates, tools, code, images, covers and design, are owned by STACKED LEGAL, LLC or its licensors and are protected by United States and international copyright, trademark and other laws. STACKED LEGAL® is a registered trademark of STACKED LEGAL, LLC. Statutes, rules and other government works quoted in the Content are in the public domain; our selection, arrangement, summaries and commentary are not.
If you believe material on the Site infringes your copyright, send a notice that meets the requirements of 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3) to our designated agent at hello@stackedlegal.com or STACKED LEGAL, LLC, 5900 Balcones Drive #32746, Austin, TX 78731, USA.
11. No warranties
The Site, the Content, the free tools and every product we sell are provided "as is," "as available" and "with all faults." To the fullest extent permitted by law, STACKED LEGAL disclaims all warranties, conditions and representations of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory or arising from course of dealing or usage of trade, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, completeness, currency, or that the Content will produce any particular result in any legal, administrative, licensing or business matter.
Without limiting the above, we do not warrant that any Content is correct, complete or current for your situation, your court or your date; that any form will be accepted by any court, clerk, agency or other person; that any deadline or calculation is right; that the Site or any tool will be available, uninterrupted, secure or error-free; or that any career guide reflects the current requirements of any licensing or certifying body. Some states do not allow certain warranty disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you; in that case the disclaimers apply to the fullest extent the law allows.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, STACKED LEGAL, LLC and its members, managers, contributors, editors, licensors, print and delivery partners and agents will not be liable to you or anyone else for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of a case, claim, right, defense, deadline, license, credential, job, business, profit, data or goodwill, arising out of or related to the Site, the Content, any tool or any product, however caused and under any theory of liability, even if we were told such damages were possible.
Our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or related to the Site, the Content or any product, under any theory, will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the specific item giving rise to the claim in the twelve months before the claim arose, or (b) twenty dollars (US $20.00).
These limits are a basic part of the bargain between you and us; we could not offer the Content at its price without them. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
13. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless STACKED LEGAL, LLC and the people and companies listed in Section 12 from any claim, demand, loss, liability, damage, cost or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Site or Content, your breach of these Terms, your violation of any law or of anyone's rights, or any document you prepare, file or use with the help of any Content.
14. Governing law, disputes and arbitration
Governing law. These Terms and any dispute between you and STACKED LEGAL are governed by the laws of the State of Texas and applicable federal law, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
Talk to us first. Before starting any formal proceeding, you agree to send a written description of the dispute to hello@stackedlegal.com and give us 30 days to resolve it.
Binding arbitration. Except as stated below, any dispute, claim or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms, the Site, the Content or any purchase will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration will be conducted in Travis County, Texas, or by video or telephone at your election. The arbitrator's award is final and may be entered in any court with jurisdiction. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this section.
Exceptions. Either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court, and either party may seek an injunction or other equitable relief in court to stop infringement or misuse of intellectual property or violation of Sections 4 or 5.
Class action and jury waiver. You and STACKED LEGAL each agree to bring claims only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, consolidated or representative proceeding. To the extent any claim proceeds in court rather than arbitration, you and STACKED LEGAL each waive any right to a jury trial.
Opt-out. You may opt out of arbitration by emailing hello@stackedlegal.com within 30 days of your first purchase or first use of the Site, stating your name and that you opt out. If you opt out, or if arbitration is found unenforceable, the state and federal courts located in Texas have exclusive jurisdiction, and you consent to personal jurisdiction and venue there.
Time limit. Any claim must be filed within one year after it arose, or it is permanently barred, to the extent the law allows.
15. General terms Contact. Questions about these Terms: hello@stackedlegal.com. Export and sanctions. You may not use the Site or Content where prohibited by U.S. law. Notices. Legal notices to us must be sent to hello@stackedlegal.com and STACKED LEGAL, LLC, 5900 Balcones Drive #32746, Austin, TX 78731, USA. Notices to you may be sent to the email address you gave us. Survival. Sections 2, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 survive any termination.
- Entire agreement. These Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Sales, Shipping & License Policy are the entire agreement between you and STACKED LEGAL about the Site and Content and replace any earlier terms.
- Severability. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, that part will be enforced to the maximum extent allowed and the rest remains in force.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce any term is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment. You may not assign or transfer these Terms or any license. We may assign them to a successor or affiliate.
